Roger Tallon (1929-2011)
The adventure of this design icon began in 1964, when Roger Tallon was an advisor for the CIFOM (trade union of founders): on the occasion of Bâtimat, at the CNIT in La Défense (Paris, France), he promoted cast iron by making several objects, including a staircase, showing that this material is not only used for radiators and other machine tools. It was not until 1966 that the Galerie Lacloche published the cast aluminum staircase, for reasons of ease of processing, but also the entire "M 400" range of which it is a part.
"M" for "module": the concept, born at the beginning to furnish the nightclub of his filmmaker friend Raoul Lévy, is based on a square slab of 400 mm side on which it is possible to position different elements and thus furnish an area. This range of Roger Tallon fits perfectly into the research on the modular and scalable habitat of the 1960s in which participates Roger Legrand, Verner Panton, or even Pierre Paulin: a scalable space at the service of the user.
